Max LAN Speed: 1000Mbps, PATA 1 x ATA133 2 Dev. Max, SATA 3Gb/s x7, SATA RAID 0/1/5/10/JBOD. Computer is setup with Software Raid 5. Raid 5 is 3 or more Hard Drives reading as one with redundant storage. This setup prevents data loss if a hard drive crashes. Total Storage of this system is 3Tb's.
RAID 5:
Striped set with distributed parity or interleave parity requiring 3 or more disks. Distributed parity requires all drives but one to be present to operate; drive failure requires replacement, but the array is not destroyed by a single drive failure. Upon drive failure, any subsequent reads can be calculated from the distributed parity such that the drive failure is masked from the end user. The array will have data loss in the event of a second drive failure and is vulnerable until the data that was on the failed drive is rebuilt onto a replacement drive. A single drive failure in the set will result in reduced performance of the entire set until the failed drive has been replaced and rebuilt.
Your probably thinking.. WHAT THE... a router that is also a storage computer? Well there is open source software that turns that old computer you have laying around into a router. It’s not just limited to out dated computers, you can use new ones to. Just put a high capacity drive in or 2 along with openssh support and now you have a storage router that anyone can connect to. Whether you connect from you local network or from anywhere with an internet connection you will not be with out your storage. Downfall to this setup is connecting from anywhere other than locally you are limited based on you internet speed from your provider.
